How do I set preparation time?
In the product builder, enter the notice you need in the minimum advance notice field, in hours or days. Customers can then only pick delivery dates that give you at least that much time.
Set it per product, honestly
A simple jar cake might need a few hours. A three tier celebration cake might need three days. A product that needs sourcing something unusual might need a week.
Set each one for what it actually takes you, including the day you will be busy with other orders.
Why being honest here pays
This field is the main thing protecting you from an order you cannot deliver. Set it too short and you will spend festival season either working through the night or rejecting people. Set it right and the orders arrive with room to breathe.
Nobody has ever regretted adding a day. Plenty have regretted taking one off.
If your capacity changes
You can change prep time whenever you like. If you are heading into a busy week, increasing it for a few days is a better move than closing the store.
Changing it affects new orders only. Anything already placed keeps the date the customer was given.
