Photos that make people order

The photo is the first and often the only thing a customer judges. You do not need a camera or a photographer. You need a window.

The four things that matter

Natural light. Shoot near a window during the day. Turn the ceiling light off; mixing yellow bulb light with daylight is what makes food photos look grey.

A plain surface. A wooden table, a plain cloth, a clean counter. Anything busy behind the food competes with it.

Fill the frame. Get close. A small cake in the middle of a large empty table reads as a small cake.

The real product. Photograph what you actually send. A customer who receives something that looks different from the picture feels misled, even when the food is good.

A few that help

  • Take ten and keep one. It costs nothing.
  • Show the inside for anything with a filling or a layer. The cut slice sells the cake.
  • Show scale for anything where size is hard to judge. A hand, a plate, a cup.
  • Shoot a whole batch at once, in the same spot, so your store looks like one shop rather than ten.

Enhancement

Cakesify can help enhance photos and generate descriptions. Review both before publishing. The listing is yours and so is the accuracy of it.
