How do I set my delivery area and charges?
Four settings decide how far you deliver and what the customer pays: a base area, a flat charge for it, a per kilometre rate beyond it, and a maximum radius.
Before you start
Know the furthest you are genuinely willing to travel, and what delivery actually costs you today.
Steps
- Go to Menu > Delivery & Pickup.
- Set your base delivery area in kilometres. This is the distance covered by one flat charge.
- Set the flat charge for that base area.
- Set the extra per km rate for anything beyond the base area.
- Set your maximum delivery radius. Customers outside this will not be able to order.
- Save.
A worked example
You deliver up to 25 km. You charge ₹80 flat for the first 5 km, and ₹20 per km after that.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Base delivery area | 5 km |
| Flat charge | ₹80 |
| Extra per km beyond base | ₹20 |
| Maximum radius | 25 km |
What the customer pays:
| Distance | Charge |
|---|---|
| 3 km | ₹80 |
| 5 km | ₹80 |
| 8 km | ₹80 + (3 × ₹20) = ₹140 |
| 25 km | ₹80 + (20 × ₹20) = ₹480 |
| 26 km | Your store is not available to them |
How to know it worked
Open your own store and start an order to an address you know the distance to. The delivery charge should match your own arithmetic.
If it doesn't work
- A nearby customer cannot order. Check your dispatch location is saved and verified. Distances are calculated from it.
- The charge seems too low. Everything inside your base area pays the flat charge, however close. That is how it is meant to work.
- Orders are coming from too far away. Lower the maximum radius. It applies to new orders.
Who actually carries it
These settings apply when you arrange delivery yourself. If you use a Cakesify integrated partner instead, the charge is calculated live at checkout. See Who handles the delivery?
Keep it current
Fuel and courier rates move. On a self-arranged delivery you are paid the charge your settings captured, so stale settings cost you money on every order. See What if delivery costs me more than the customer paid?.
